Communication Arts & Sciences offers several concentrations to prepare you professionally. You can major in journalism, corporate communication or rhetoric and communication. There's also the student-run newspaper, the Dominican Star. Our students also have real-life experience through internships and class projects.
All majors are required to become student members of the National Communication Association and/or the Central States Speech Association prior to having a major card signed. All majors are heartily urged to join and participate in Dominican’s Communication Club or local chapter of the National Communication Association’s Student Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta, if invited.
Film Criticism Courses
Filmmakers are society’s new storytellers and film has become perhaps today’s most influential art form.
Dominican’s film courses cover a breadth and depth of material typically only seen in much larger universities. The university is fortunate to offer a variety of film courses on a wide range of topics, including:
- Film history
- Film authorship
- National cinema
- Film comedy
- Women and film
- Individual filmmakers, including Alfred Hitchcock and Walt Disney
Film courses may be used as electives to round out communications or other majors. Additionally, some of them some of them also fulfill requirements for the rhetoric and communication minor.
